KJV vs Anything Else

So I have been having discussions with a dear friend regarding KJV only. I mentioned to him readability. He brought up this point which is widely used by the KJV only apologists.

The Flesch-Kincaid research company’s Grade Level Indicator betrays the strictly black and white nature of the issue showing the new version’s true colors. The KJV ranks easier in 23 out of 26 comparisons.

Every morning I get multiple devotional emails. This morning I got one quoting James 1:2-3 in my preferred text the ESV. Here is the text in the ESV

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faithproduces steadfastness.

Here it is in the KJV

2My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; 3Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

Without taking studies and research in to account. Which translation is easier to understand?

Opinions welcome.
