On Music and Doctrine

http://doeswanna.live/2019/06 ausreisen nach thailand Sitting here thinking about music this morning. I was raised in a neo-pentecostal church that denied the concept of a hypostatic union. It instead embraced the heretical doctrine of sabellianism, modalism, modalistic monarchianism, modal monarchism, or whatever you want to call it. There are songs I remember well from that era of my life. The pastors daughter would often sing consider the lilies, more love more power, and others. I say all this because this morning I awoke with a song on my heart. A song often used in parting, yet one never sang in my youth. Why? Because it would not line up with the false doctrines I was being taught. I found it sad this morning that such a simple song embraced by many churches.  I never heard sung in my entire life as a child, and young adult. Even hearing it as an instrumental on a record by Petra did not click with me till I was older. Not until God started working in me undoing some of theological damage that had been done. It is such a beautiful, and simple song of praise, and worship. I am sure Thomas Ken never knew how impactful this would be when it was penned in 1674. It has been my tearful worship this morning

Idealshape product review.

http://lunchdriving.live/2019/06 durée mandat ce So in support of my weight loss goals I bought a few containers of idealshape products. They get rave reviews online, and I feel after a few containers I have given them a fair shake (no pun intended). The only reason I started them was because of a shortage of my normal shake due to a voluntary recall. (Garden of Life – RAW Meal) I will not order any more, the claim of 3 hour appetite control totally falls flat for me. I can drink a shake and be starving 30 minutes later. The bars do not seem to be any better. The best appetite control product I have found to date has been Norcodrene. It was suggested by someone at vitaminshoppe, and so far it does a way better job than Idealshape. As of today I am almost 20 lbs down. I will keep posting my thoughts on this journey

The New Apostolic Reformation (NAR)

http://friendhome.live/2019/05 universum programm karlsruhe What does Jesus Culture, Bethel Church, Bill Johnson, IHOP, C. Peter Wagner, Rick Joyner,  Kim Clement and many more have in common? They are all part of a movement known as the New Apostolic Reformation or NAR for short. I have seen a stark rise in recent years in genuinely honest and well meaning people being captivated by these types of groups. As well as people flocking to false teachers outside the NAR such as Curry Blake, Joan Hunter, Michael Smith (not the CCM artist), and Derek Prince.  I even see people in the reformed community being sucked in by people like Derek Prince. And seeing Francis Chan being chosen to be a speaker at IHOP, and him going really scares me.. I have decided as time allows to begin dealing with some of these issues that I see, and to talk about my own experiences growing up in the United Pentecostal Church. Here is kind of a quick list of things you will see in the NAR in the video below.

What points me to Christ

Music is such a powerful force in my life. I had lunch with a friend the other day and some jabs were thrown over doctrinal differences. These discussions always lead to self evaluation for me. The concept that we will not suffer with afflictions, and that perfect healing exists in this life, is absolutely contrary to scripture. I find myself having these discussions more and more these days. At the end of the day, after the jabs are thrown things like this lyric jumps out at me today from Rival Choir

No matter how far I run you follow me where I go and you lead me back home. I can see I will fall on my own. I believe, I will follow you home.  Lead me into the waves so I can see you standing over them. I want to feel the oceans tremble. I want to fall in love again.

At the end of the day am I being pointed to Christ?

If it takes leading me into the waves to see your sovereignty so be it.

Bugout bag! Which One?

I had a friend ping me recently on which pack for a bugout bag I would suggest. The short answer is the ILBE system of main ruck, and assault pack. So here is a little history The ILBE (Improved Load Bearing Equipment) was a replacement program for the Marine Corps MOLLE ( Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment), and in some cases ALICE ( All-purpose Lightweight Individual Carrying Equipment) gear. This is not your everyday piece of military surplus. The ILBE was designed by a leader in in the backpack industry, and that leader is Arc’teryx. Rumors have it the the ILBE is based on the Bora 95. In the graphic below you can see this pack averaged in the 400 dollar space. You can buy a complete ILBE system for under 100 bucks on ebay. bora95

So if this pack is so awesome, why is it now a surplus item that is no longer being used? That answer is simple, body armor! The system was designed before the Modular Tactical Vest (MTV) was put into use in the Marine Corps. They did not work well together, so they kept the vest, and went back to the drawing board on a pack. For a while they tested the Arc’teryx Antaeus, and eventually landed on the current FILBE/MDM design that I have read a lot of people hate. So for many of them it is back to the ALICE design with the malice pack.

Now this is just my opinion, and there are many pack solutions out there. My second favorite is based on and ALICE/MOLLE called the Hellcat mod in most of the prepper community. One of my metrics is cost  vs value, my budget is generally under  a 100 bucks. Like with everything, this is my suggestion to answer a very specific question. Be looking for upcoming posts on my families bucket solution, and what goes in it. As well as what I keep in my vehicle.A few packs

A few of my packs from left to right: MOLLE Assault pack (Multicam), Medium MOLLE Rucksack (ACU), ALICE Hellcat without sleep carrier (Woodland), ILBE (Marpat)

The differences in the Christian, and secular worldview

I was listening to a radio program the other day, and they had a two part series by Frank Peretti. Now while I do not agree with his theology, I think he knocks it out of the park on the differences between secular humanism, and Christianity, from a worldview perspective. If you have time check them out.

Philosophical Christianity and a rare date with my wife.

I do not talk a whole lot about me wife’s illness. She has CFS, and Fibromyalgia, and for this reason she is mostly home bound. Every now and then, if things are planned very carefully, I can get her out. Most of the time it wipes her out for a few days, sometimes up to a week. So we just do not plan things. This is really hard for people to understand, especially some family. Tonight though we are going to a live recording of a band we both adore. A band who I have listened to most of my life. The band is the choir, and you can watch the show streaming live tonight. On the last album they had song call “after all” I have posted the youtube video below. If there is anyone I would like to float through this life with. It is my beautiful, amazing wife. Oh yeah, if you are wondering where the philosophy tie is, just listen to the song.

On misplaced Christian memes

I have seen this going around. Seen it with profanity in it. I have even seen it posted by my atheist friends. What point are people generally trying to make?  How  did Jesus really love them? Lets look at a great example in John 8:1-11.

“Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” 11 She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more.”

Notice that last part. A lot of people I have seen post this are trying to excuse themselves from sinful lifestyles. We are all sinners, and there is no condemnation in Christ. So I want to get that out of the way first. Yet at the same time if we are continuing in a sinful lifestyle, or any sin, and excusing it. Then we have a problem.

So back to the question how do we love them? By not being condemning, telling them they are a sinner, and that Christ can forgive them of their sin, and stand in their place. Then we move to discipleship. This is the part of the love that people often reject. I am not saying we will be sinless, but we should absolutely hate ourselves when we do, and go to our savior and confess those sins.  If you are excusing your sin then are you abiding in him?

No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him. Little children, let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous. Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God’s seed abides in him, and he cannot keep on sinning because he has been born of God. By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother. (1 John 3:6-10 ESV)

For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries. (Hebrews 10:26-27 ESV)
